new anti-smoking ad for teens…
developed for NHS so we should be aware of it anyway. personally, i think the special effect is subtle and gripping, but i’m suspicious of the message. do teens want to look young? is this a strong enough reason to overcome peer pressure?
what do you guys think?

January 24, 2012I have to agree with you. The outward physical aging of smoking is much more subtle that depicted here. I’m not sure that as a teen you really think that some day you’ll have wrinkles and look older. However, I think this could be a much more effective message to women (and maybe even men?) in their late twenties (approaching that scary 30 mark) and even more so in their 30′s.
A more effective message to teens and 20 somethings and preventative instead of an intervention, might be the things you can’t do as well by smoking (i.e. sports, music, dancing, etc.). Or even the things you miss out on because you’re outside having a cigarette and the rest of your friends are inside having fun. I have seen the social norm around smoking change for young people. Playing on those behavioral changes might be a much more effective message.
